Grand Oak Custom Woodworking was created in 2019. However, the story starts long before then.
Luke D. Voth, Owner and Craftsman, began working with wood at the age of nine. Although he was not making heirloom quality furniture at the age of nine, the seed was planted. At the age of 12 he joined a 4-H club specializing in woodworking, and became the mentee of the leader Mr. Heft. During the years Luke was in 4-H pursuing, learning, and refining his skills in woodworking, he won most of top honors in at the county level. He also earned the opportunity to compete at the Ohio State Fair multiple years where he consistently was awarded “Outstanding of the Day” award. While in high school and college Luke also worked part time in construction where he learned the basics of home construction and the considerations of a cabinetmaker.
Luke received a Bachelors Degree from Bluffton University in Business Administration with concentrations in Management and Marketing and minors in Economics and Mathematics. After graduating and getting married to his wife Cindy, Luke joined Lantz Custom Woodworking as a cabinet maker. While at Lantz Custom Woodworking Luke gained experience with all aspects of furniture and cabinet production and installation. While there he was privileged to work on many exquisite projects both large and small. During his time at Lantz Custom Woodworking he eventually worked his way up to Senior Craftsman-Assistant Shop Manager.
After his time at Lantz Custom Woodworking, he moved to northern Indiana where he currently lives and works. There he joined Lambright Woodworking as Specialty Bench Craftsman. At Lambright Woodworking, he developed and honed his skill at building unique and curved cabinets, curved cabinet doors, and unique and curved range hoods. He also has made a great many items that don’t fit into traditional item descriptions.
During his professional career in the furniture and cabinet industry Luke has been building items in his spare time for family, friends, and charitable organizations. He has added skills that include marquetry techniques which he has used to produce unforgettably beautiful family treasures. With the start of Grand Oak Custom Woodworking Luke has decided to make his skills and exceptional work available on a wider basis. While he still makes items on a speculation basis he is now also turning to accepting projects that require the attention to detail and custom parameters that ends with the customer truly excited for the bespoke heirloom quality piece they were dreaming of.
At this point Luke has been building unique and heirloom quality furniture for well over 3/4 of his life. He has published several articles, and has won numerous awards for his furniture. Luke D. Voth looks forward to hearing your dreams and imagining with you about what bespoke piece he can craft for you.
